Sometimes the hardest part of decorating your home isn’t finding the main pieces of furniture; it’s making it feel complete. After moving into our new home about a year ago, I can definitely relate to this conundrum. We spent so much time searching for the right pieces of furniture for our living room that we just wanted to be done with it by the time it all came together. Unfortunately, it just didn’t feel like our home. While we love our sofa, rug, and coffee table, they just aren’t enough to complete a room.
I knew I needed a few additional items to make the space feel complete. After hearing great things about the home decor items at The Home Depot, I thought I’d check it out! So, after playing around with a few additional items, I’ve discovered a few things in particular that really make a room feel finished. Check out all the home decor at The Home Depot here to find some great items to make your room feel finished!
1. Textiles
Printed pillows, cozy blankets, or even a simple rug — these are must-haves to make a room feel complete. They add your own personal touch with colors, prints & textures and they make any room feel homier. While I have tons of pillows to play with, my living room was in need of a good throw blanket. The Home Depot had some that could go with just about any color pillow (since I’m always changing mine around), and looked comfy enough for a good snuggle on the couch. This one I found does the job!
2. Plants
I don’t care if they’re real or fake, plants of all kinds are an easy way to make your home feel more complete. Personally, I’m a huge fan of quality artificial plants. With my black thumb, they’re just much more realistic. And there are actually some great options out there! The Home Depot has a ton, like this onion grass plant already in a stylish rope planter. Just take it out of the box, put it where you want it and you never have to think about it again.
3. Personal items
Whether you have fun pieces from your travels, items that have been gifted to you from friends, or just some decor that fits your style, these small pieces are essential for completing a room. If you’re starting from scratch, don’t overthink it! Just pick out a few things you’re drawn to. Think books, candles, vases, picture frames, etc. The Home Depot has some really fun pieces like this cute vase set! I love that it comes in a simple wooden tray and I can fill it with just about anything.
4. Art
Blank walls are a sure sign of an unfinished room. You don’t have to go crazy filling every blank space, but adding some sort of artwork to your walls can really help make the room feel more finished. Try a framed photo, a painting, or something with more texture like a weaving or wooden piece.
5. Window coverings
One area of this room that I’m still working on is the windows. I’ve used drapes in other rooms in the house and they really make it feel homier and more complete. For this room, I plan on using bamboo shades for these shorter windows and I think it’ll really help finish off the room.
